Gardening on a Budget

Gardening is good for you! According to recent research, regular exercise in the garden leads to benefits including improved social, psychological, and physical health. Here are a few tips to get most of the benefits gardening without spending a fortune.

Re-purposing and recycling

Take a look at your household waste and see if any of it can be reused. For example, plastic bottles can be used as mini greenhouses and toilet rolls make wonderful biodegradable pots for seedlings.

Grow from seed and take cuttings

Hunt around for deals on seeds in supermarkets or garden centres and look for local seed swaps where you can swap any excess seeds you have for other varieties.

Get involved in community gardening

Join a gardening club or volunteer in a community garden. In North Vancouver, there are many community gardens where you can volunteer and meet like-minded people.
