“The trip was awesome. There are 5 events in the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Series and the race in Argentina is the 4th event. The other races were in the UK, Germany and Netherlands and the final race is in San Diego USA at the end of the month. Since May of this year, Olympic qualifying points are up for grabs, so the riders and countries all have their eyes set on Summer Olympics in Rio in 2016. The Australian team in Argentina was made up of 5 riders- 2 men 3 women.
One of our female riders Caroline Buchanan (Australian Institute of Sport’s Athlete of the Year 2013) finished second in the time trial event. One of our other female riders Melinda McLeod got third in the Supercross event.
Seeing Mel accept her prizes was one of the highlights of the trip as it was her first ever podium result. It was an incredible experience to see her up there and share the celebrations with her. The event was held in Santiago Del Estero which is a smaller town in Argentina. It was a great opportunity to be able to talk to riders and staff from all over the world- and of course enjoy the local Argentinian steak and red wine!!”
