Shockwave Therapy North Vancouver

Use Sound Waves To Stimulate Healing

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy delivers controlled sound waves into injured tissue. The goal is to trigger a healing response by improving circulation, reducing pain sensitivity, and supporting tissue remodelling.

How does Shockwave Therapy work?

Shockwave therapy (also called extracorporeal shockwave therapy, or ESWT) is a non-surgical treatment that uses focused sound waves to stimulate healing in injured tendon and soft tissue. It’s commonly used for stubborn, longer-lasting pain that hasn’t responded fully to rest, rehab, or other conservative care. At North Shore Sports Medicine, shockwave therapy is offered as part of an individualized treatment plan.

How Does Shockwave Help You?

  • Plantar fasciitis/heel pain
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylalgia)
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy/shoulder pain
  • Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (lateral hip pain)
  • Medial tibial stress syndrome (shin pain)

What to Expect?

1. Assessment
We start by identifying the true source of pain and confirming if shockwave is suitable.

2. Treatment Session

  • The area is examined and marked
  • Gel is applied to improve transmission
  • Shockwaves are delivered in pulses
  • Most sessions are brief; discomfort varies by condition and sensitivity
3. Rehab Plan
Shockwave is most effective when paired with a progressive loading/strength plan and activity guidance.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Many people complete a short course of sessions over several weeks, but the number varies depending on the diagnosis, chronicity, and your activity demands.

Benefits and Results Timeline

Typical benefits

  • Reduced pain with activity
  • Improved tolerance to loading/strength work
  • Progress after a plateau with other approaches

Timeline

  • Some people notice changes within a few sessions, while others experience gradual improvement over 6–12 weeks as tissue adapts.

Additional Cost
