Physiotherapist – Robert Michael Ong
Rob’s path into physiotherapy started in biomedical sciences, which gave him a grounding in the underlying physiology and pathology behind clinical practice. He went on to graduate from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy), First Class Honours, and has since published research in COPD.
Wanting to understand health from a broader, systems-level perspective, Rob completed a Master of Public Health at Imperial College London, focused on operations and systems-level
thinking — a lens he now brings to how he manages patient care as much as how he leads a clinic.
Rob’s approach to treatment is holistic. Rather than starting with a generic protocol, he builds each treatment plan and method around the patient’s actual life — work, sport, family, routine —
and works first to identify and address the barriers standing in the way of recovery before anything else.
Rob trained for two years under an Advanced DMA Clinical Pilates practitioner before using that experience to build physio-led Pilates programs for other clinics. That work fed directly into his main clinical interest – chronic and persistent pain, where he uses Pilates as a strength and conditioning tool to help patients manage long-term pain. He also has an interest in hand
therapy.
Rob has a background in competitive tennis, has coached competitive rock climbing, and has performed in aerial silks. While completing his Master’s, he also spent time managing a climbing gym and coffee bar — an experience that shaped his approach to operations and team leadership just as much as his formal training did.
